When Tommy Neikirk reflects on his Leadership Geauga experience, one word comes to mind: connections.
A proud graduate of Leadership Geauga’s Signature Adult Program Class of 2008 (which he still calls “the BEST class!”), Tommy says the program not only expanded his understanding of Geauga County, but also introduced him to relationships that have benefited him both personally and professionally for nearly two decades.

Today, Tommy serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager, Commercial Lending at Farmers National Bank of Canfield / Middlefield Banking Company, where he has built an impressive 33-year career. He lives in Middlefield with his wife, Tricia, daughter Hanna, and their two dogs, Lilly and CC. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, biking, skiing, kayaking, and spending time with his family on beach vacations.
“Leadership Geauga not only deepened my understanding of the vast resources we have in this county, but also provided me with a network of personal and business relationships that will last a lifetime,” Tommy shared. “Through these relationships, I not only garnered new business for the bank, but also learned more about the wonderful people and businesses that we are so fortunate to have in Geauga County.”
Beyond networking, Tommy says the program challenged him to grow as a leader by building confidence and strengthening essential skills like communication, teamwork, responsibility, and collaboration.
“One of the most important qualities I learned while in the program was to be connected, supportive, and engaged,” he said. “These are universal traits that you can practice and continue to improve at home, at work, and in your community.”
Since completing Leadership Geauga, Tommy has reached several significant professional milestones. He was promoted to Senior Vice President, graduated with honors from the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin, and most recently earned a Certificate of Executive Leadership from the Wisconsin School of Business in 2024.
Looking back, Tommy believes Leadership Geauga continues to provide tremendous value for anyone willing to invest in the experience.
“This program fosters personal growth while providing priceless networking opportunities to be successful. It’s the old cliché—you get out of it what you put into it.”
Tommy encourages both local professionals and high school students to consider participating in Leadership Geauga. He also expressed his appreciation for, previous executive director, Dr. Bob Faehnle’s mentorship and shared how proud he is of Executive Director Meredith Ashkettle, Marketing & Outreach Manager Amy Murfello, and the Board of Directors for their continued commitment to making Geauga County a vibrant place to live, work, and lead.
Leadership Geauga is grateful for alumni like Tommy who continue to demonstrate the lasting impact of leadership, lifelong learning, and community engagement.
