Leadership Geauga proudly announces the graduation of 36 students from 12 school districts from its 2026 Youth Institute, a career exploration program designed for students entering their junior or senior year of high school in the upcoming academic year.
The program ran from June 15 through June 25, bringing together students who live in Geauga County but attend a variety of high schools both within and outside the county. Throughout the experience, participants explored a wide range of careers and industries while gaining firsthand insight into the professional journeys of local community leaders.
Students completed the CliftonStrengths assessment and participated in guided discussions about their strengths and how they show up in different work environments. They also took part in communication and professionalism classes designed to strengthen essential soft skills needed in the workplace, including effective communication and professional presence.
A major component of the program focused on career exploration through immersive, on-site learning. Students traveled throughout Geauga County, visiting 20 businesses and organizations, meeting 52 community leaders, and covering 116 miles as they learned about a variety of industries, career paths, and organizational missions.
The Youth Institute also includes a mentorship experience. As part of the application process, students identify areas of career interest, and Leadership Geauga staff, along with its Youth Committee, match each participant with a local professional. Students then spend a dedicated day alongside their mentor, gaining real-world exposure to a career field of interest.
The program concluded on Thursday, June 25, with a graduation ceremony and luncheon attended by more than 85 guests, including students, family members, staff, and board members. The event celebrated the students’ experiences, reflections, and the connections they made throughout the program.
Leadership Geauga extends its sincere gratitude to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center for serving as the exclusive sponsor of the 2026 Youth Institute. Their generous support makes this impactful career exploration experience possible for local students.
